“Alexander received more bravery of mind by the pattern of Achilles
than by hearing the definition of fortitude.”
—Sir Philip Sidney, English poet and soldier (1554-1586)
This might seem like an argument for the need for more live demonstrations until we realize that Achilles was not someone that Alexander knew, but a figure from Greek mythology. Live modeling and video can be helpful, but there is power in the patterns that are laid out in stories. We learn more from stories than from definitions.
