I will be presenting a new workshop in Orange, California next week: MINDSET & OUR STUDENTS. This is a different direction for my workshops: it is for teachers of all grades and all subject areas.
In this workshop we will answer these questions with the principles from Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck’s book Mindset and how the two mindsets impact our students. These are some of the most powerful ideas I have come across in my teaching in a long time. An awareness of Mindset has changed the way I interact with my students and it is having dramatic results in my classroom.
• What are the two mindsets?
• What are some “Mindset Rules” we see in students?
• How can we communicate what we value to students? (Hard work rather than instant perfection)
• How can we teach students to deal with failure?
• How can we motivate students through daily obstacles?
• What is the mindset of people that become successful?
• Is intelligence nature or nurture?
• How can we help students labeled as gifted (or otherwise)?
• What are some tools to encourage our students to develop a growth mindset?
More to come this week and next. Stay tuned.
Great topic! I think mindset is really important in learning languages. I work with English learners online and I offer a free email course in which I cover the importance of having a growth mindset (as discussed by Carol Dweck). My site is http://www.englishfluencynow.com
