On Friday, February 3 we did a Skype discussion about reading with teachers in Alaska. The session was organized by Michele Whaley, extraordinary Russian teacher in Anchorage.
The group was highly motivated–even though it was after work on a Friday and it was snowing hard, there were nine people in the library at her school, besides those watching remotely from other locations and far flung towns. Even though there were some problems with the technology it was a stimulating time and the hour and half passed all too quickly.
Here is a link to comments about the session on Michele’s blog: http://mjtprs.wordpress.com/2012/02/05/bryce/
The training was about teaching and assessing reading in the foreign language classroom, but the interest in light reading was high, and I will discuss this in a post later on.
